BOFAS are delighted to announce that the society will be awarding two places for the BOA Future Leaders Programme for 2019
BOFAS would like to invite the application for one fully sponsored place on the BOA future leaders programme relevant for later stages of specialist training and early years consultants. AIMS
· Learn how to enhance your leadership ability as a consultant
· Demonstrate self-awareness and impact to lead multidisciplinary teams
· Accelerate service transformation and quality improvement in orthopaedic services
· Deliver and share quality improvement project outcomes demonstrating tangible results using core skills in improvement methodology and knowledge from improvement science
· Share and learn from a vibrant support network of clinical leaders

WHO IS THIS PROGRAMME FOR?
Senior trainees (ST8 or above when the programme runs) and SAS surgeons with a specific interest in F&A surgery
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME INVOLVE?
The programme is delivered though a combination of master classes, tutorials and coaching sessions with experts in their field. The legacy of this one year development programme is a significant innovation and improvement project delivered by each participant related to the improvement of Foot and Ankle services. This will be presented at the BOA and BOFAS Annual Congress Meetings.
FOUR TWO DAY MODULES that cover the following content
LEADERSHIP EFFECTIVENESS : self-awareness, leadership diagnostics, breakthrough personal effectiveness, leadership development plans, coaching objectives, personal impact, coaching for improvement, aligning clinical and managerial agendas
CONTEXT FOR IMPROVEMENT OF ORTHOPAEDIC SERVICES : leading safety, reducing harm, the human factors, quality and efficiency, patient experience and expectations, innovation and new approaches in Orthopaedics, NHS policy context, Trust strategy and improvement agenda
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT METHODOLOGY : principles of Quality Improvement, LEAN methodology, Kaisen, Toyota, process review and redesign, demand management, workforce planning, measurement of improvement , statistical process control, creativity tools, problem solving tools, project management, applications in healthcare
INSPIRATIONAL LEADERSHIP : leading teams, engaging and motivating colleagues, influencing, leading change, negotiating, difficult conversations, high performing individuals and teams, coaching for complex change.
HOW IS THE PROGRAMME DELIVERED?
Programme dates : To be announced commencing October 2019

It is delivered by Karen Picking and Associates. www.karenpicking.co.uk. Karen Picking and Associates are an established collaboration of partner organisations with considerable experience of delivering a high impact Clinical Fellowship Leadership Programmes.
For three years they have delivered the National Orthopaedic Transitional Fellowship Programme in partnership with the British Orthopaedics Association and sponsoring NHS Trusts.
