Maneesh Bhatia

Maneesh Bhatia is a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon at University Hospitals of Leicester and clinical director of Alliance Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland (LLR). He is the Editor of three books and his latest publication is  “Essentials of Foot and Ankle Surgery”.  He is a senior FRCS (Trauma & Orth) examiner for the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations (JCIE). He has acted in the role of specialist advisor to NICE regarding non-surgical treatment of Achilles ruptures. He is a member of advisory panel of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). His other current roles include member of Scientific Committee of European Foot Ankle Society (EFAS) and the Education Secretary of British Indian Orthopaedic Society (BIOS). He has served as scientific committee member for British Orthopaedic Foot Ankle Society (BOFAS).


 

Rick Brown

Rick Brown graduated from the University of Cambridge and King’s College Hospital, London, before completing orthopaedic training on the Middlesex & Stanmore Rotation, London and then Fellowships in Sydney and at Harvard, USA. After appointment as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2004, he established the new Foot and Ankle Service in Cheltenham and ran a Regional Paediatric Foot Clinic at Bristol Children’s Hospital.  In 2016 he was appointed as a Consultant in the Foot & Ankle Team at  The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, where his practice covers all areas of Foot & Ankle surgery including sports injuries, neurological conditions, complex forefoot pathology, arthritis and young adult problems. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery of  the University of Oxford. Education in Foot & Ankle surgery is his special interest. Since 2012 he  has served on the BOFAS Education committee, of which he is now the Chairman. He designed several new Courses in the UK as well as overseas and is an experienced Course Director and Chairman of Instructional courses either  at conferences or as a webinar. He has served on the Court of  Examiners of the FRCS (Tr & Orth) for eight years. 


 

Anna Chapman

Anna Chapman is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospitals, Coventry and Warwickshire with a specialist interest in Foot and Ankle surgery.  She qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St. Thomas’s Hospitals School of Medicine in London, and completed her orthopaedic training on the Warwick rotation. She undertook Fellowship training in Bournemouth and Bristol, and was appointed as a Consultant in 2012.  She completed a Masters Degree in Medical Education at the University of Warwick in 2010 and continues to pursue her interest in all things educational. Anna is currently the Deputy Training Programme Director for the Warwick Orthopaedic Specialist Training Programme.


 

Robert Clayton

Robert Clayton moved to Edinburgh in 1994 and graduated in 2000. He undertook Basic and Higher Surgical training in the South East Scotland region. He undertook fellowship training in Foot & Ankle surgery in Glasgow in 2009 before taking up post as a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon in Fife in 2010. He has a highly specialised elective and trauma foot and ankle practice. He has an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and orthopaedic research. He is a council member of the Foot and Ankle Scotland group and has served on faculty at numerous courses and conferences in the region.


 

Tim Clough

Tim Clough graduated from St Andrews, Scotland and Manchester in 1992, gained specialist training in Manchester before completing his Fellowship training in Canada.  He was appointed Consultant F+A surgeon at Wrightington Hospital in 2003. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford and is committed to both research and medical education, sitting on the R+D Committee of his NHS Trust, is regular Faculty member to Courses and Conferences, runs a F+A Cadaver workshop, lectures on the Biomechanics programme at the University of Dundee, is a member of the International Advisory Board for ‘The Foot’ and is a reviewer for the journal.   


 

Jim Carmichael

James Carmichael was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Trust in May 2010. His clinical practice covers surgery of the foot, ankle and knee and all aspects of trauma orthopaedics. He graduated from Nottingham University Medical School with a Bachelor of Medical Science (II.i) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He went on to complete his basic surgical rotation in the Nottingham and Derby area. In 2002 he moved to the Winchester area where he undertook his higher surgical training in the Wessex region. During this period he also gained an MSc with distinction in Orthopaedic Engineering at Cardiff University and gained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (London).


 

Nick Cullen

Nick Cullen was appointed as a Consultant in the Foot & Ankle Unit of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Trust, Stanmore in August 2005. The Foot & Ankle Unit at the RNOH is a tertiary referral centre, treating many of the complex foot & ankle cases that are referred from hospitals throughout the South of England. Dealing solely with problems of the foot & ankle, Mr Cullen’s interests include sports injuries, bunion, toe deformity, arthroscopy, arthritis and tendon disorders.


 

Howard Davies

Howard Davies graduated from Manchester University and completed his Orthopaedic training in Leeds and the East of England. He undertook a Foot & Ankle Fellowship in Sheffield and joined the Sheffield Foot and Ankle Unit as a Consultant and honorary clinical lecturer in 2013. He is a regional clinical co-ordinator for the National joint registry and regularly teaches on regional and national courses.


 

Mark Davies

Mark B Davies is a graduate of Southampton University from 1993 who subsequently underwent specialist training in Sheffield.  He undertook two Fellowships, one in trauma and limb reconstruction in Sheffield and the other in adult foot and ankle surgery in Brisbane in 2005.  He is a consultant and honorary clinical lecturer in the Sheffield Foot and Ankle Unit, the lead for undergraduate education in orthopaedic surgery and the SFAU lead for research and audit. 


 

James Davis

James Davis graduated  from  Charing  Cross  and  Westminster  Medical School in 1990 and completed surgical training in London.  His orthopaedic training was in the South Thames region.  He was fellowship trained at the University  of  Johns  Hopkins,  USA.    He  was  appointed  as  a  consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Torbay Hospital in 2001.  He started a specialist foot and ankle service in South Devon and runs the South West Foot and Ankle Centre.


 

Andy Goldberg

Andy Goldberg is a fellowship trained Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon in London. Having qualified from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (Imperial College) in 1994, his specialist training was on the North East Thames rotation in trauma and orthopaedics with a specialist fellowship in complex foot and ankle disorders at the Oxford Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital with Paul Cooke. Prior to this, he also spent a year on a travelling fellowship to 15 centres of excellence across the US and Europe. Following a period of time as a locum consultant in Northampton, in 2010 he took up a role as Clinical Senior Lecturer at UCL and Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. In 2018 he moved his clinical practice to the independent sector at the Wellington Hospital in London but remains an Honorary Associate Professor at UCL and Chief Investigator or Co-Investigator on studies that have been funded in excess of £5m, including the NIHR HTA funded study of ankle replacement against ankle fusion (TARVA) and Autologous Stem Cells in Achilles Tendinopathy (ASCAT).  He is widely published and has authored several text books including Surgical Talk, and the Atlas of Ankle Replacements. He sits on the NJR Editorial Board and the NJR Medical Advisory Board and is a co-opted member on the Outcomes Committee for BOFAS as well as being an Editorial Board Member for FAO at the AOFAS.


 

Paul Halliwell

Paul Halliwell graduated from Guy’s Hospital, London. His clinical training included Oxford, St. Thomas’ and St. George’s Hospitals, then Fellowship training at Great Ormond Street and in Toronto. He is consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Guildford, Surrey, specialising in conditions and trauma of the foot and ankle in both adults and children. He teaches at all grades from medical students to fellow consultants. His faculty memberships include the Forefoot Instructional Course in Bordeaux. He is co-convenor of the Surrey University cadaveric training courses and FRCS (Tr & Orth) examiner.


  

Sallie Lamb

Professor Sallie Lamb is the Mireille Gillings Professor for Health Innovation at the University of Exeter. She is also an Honorary Departmental Professor at the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford. Previously Professor Lamb was Director for Centre for Statistics in Medicine, Foundation Director at the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit and Centre for Rehabilitation Research, University of Oxford. She has a long-standing interest in clinical trials, medical statistics and, rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and chronic conditions in older people. She works with clinicians to develop pragmatic clinical trial designs to capture the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a variety of health interventions. She is the Chief Investigator for a number of trials of rehabilitation interventions. Professor Lamb has served as Board Chair for the National Institute of Health Research Health Technology Programme.  Professor Lamb is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, Royal Statistical Society, and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and has served as a member of the American Geriatric Society/ British Geriatric Society Fall Guideline Panel and the NICE guideline panel of hip fracture management.


 

Jit Mangwani

Jitendra Mangwani is a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon at University Hospitals of Leicester.  He graduated in India and completed his higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics in London with a specialist fellowship in foot and ankle surgery.  He has a keen research interest.  He is committed to medical education and is regularly invited as a faculty to courses and conferences.  He runs both national and international foot and ankle surgery courses. He is a member of the Scientific Committee and in this role is co-opted on the Outcomes Committee.


 

Anand Pillai

Anand Pillai trained in orthopaedic and foot surgery in the west of Scotland, and has undertaken further sub-specialist fellowships in Adelaide, South Australia and Oxford. He also visited and worked with surgeons from SportsMed SA, Mater Hospital Sydney and Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital in Perth. Furthermore, He has completed a fellowship in Ilizarov techniques and limb deformity correction at the world renowned Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre in Kurgan, Siberia. He was initially appointed as consultant to Ninewells University Hospital and Dundee Medical School in Scotland, before moving to the North West. Mr Pillai is formerly a member of the EFAS research council & committee member of AOFAS. He is currently a member of the surgical specialty board in orthopaedics of RCS Edin and is also an honorary adjunct professor of orthopaedic surgery . Foot & Ankle Speciality Lead for Greater Manchester Single Hospital Service He has published and presented widely in numerous national and international meetings


 

James Ritchie

James Ritchie is a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon based in Tunbridge Wells and was appointed in 2005.  He trained in the SE Thames Region and has undertaken a Specialist Foot & Ankle Fellowship at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore.  He is committed to medical education and runs the South East Thames Foot and Ankle training programme and the Guy's Hospital Foot and Ankle Course .


 

Roland Russell

Roland Russell is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford where he heads the foot and ankle unit and is clinical lead in orthopaedic research. He has established strong links with The Anglia Ruskin University where he is involved in ongoing foot and ankle research. Roland qualified at The London Hospital and trained on the North West Thames Rotation. He has undertaken both national and international foot and ankle fellowships and is a reviewer of the European Journal, Foot and Ankle Surgery. As chairman of the scientific committee of BOFAS, as well as facilitating the numerous roles of the committee, he personally lead on the promotion of high quality research through the society.


  

Professor Charles Saltzman

Charles Saltzman is an Honorary member of BOFAS. He serves as Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Utah where is the LS Peery MD Presidential Endowed Professor. Dr. Saltzman currently serves the field of Orthopaedics in the United States as Senior Director of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and Editor in Chief of FAI and FAO. He has co-edited the most recent two editions of "Mann's Surgery of Foot and Ankle", and has previously served as President of AOFAS, President of IFFAS, and President of the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons. Currently, Dr. Saltzman focuses his clinical practice on two primary areas of longstanding interest: 1) Adult ankle & hindfoot conditions and 2) All foot and ankle problems of adolescents and young adults.


  

Hiro Tanaka

Hiro Tanaka is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Newport, South Wales.  He is passionate about improving the quality of surgical training and promoting clinical leadership in the NHS.  He designed the BOFAS Principles Course on behalf of the Education Committee in 2010 and continues to be a member of the committee.  He is Chairman of the Education and Revalidation Committee of the BOA and is an examiner for the FRCS (Orth).


 

Heath Taylor

Heath Taylor graduated from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School in 1994 and completed his Orthopaedic training on the North West Thames training rotation. He carried out his fellowship in complex foot and ankle surgery at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. He is currently a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Foot & Ankle surgery at The Royal Bournemouth & Poole Hospitals. He takes a particular interest in training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons and in 2012 was voted the Wessex Region Trainer of the Year.
